Mattress Maintenance

!±8± Mattress Maintenance

Though mattresses vary in durability depending upon the type of mattress yet an otherwise durable mattress will also not last long if not taken care of properly. The issue is of utmost importance if you have kids and pets at home, smoke or have occasional breakfast in bed or if the climate you live is severe in climatic conditions. A cleaned and well maintained mattress not only lasts for longer years but also is in your best interest from health and hygiene point of view. It ensures a sound sleep with no tiredness and backaches after you wake up. Whereas a badly ignored mattress not only sags early but also poses health risks to you and your family. Maintaining a mattress is not a rocket science at all and a little attention can win you greater benefits. Here are some of the ways you can enhance the life of your mattress:

Use a mattress cover: Mattress covers; mattress pads or mattress protectors are the same names for the covering that protects your mattress in the easiest to do way. You can purchase one from any furniture or mattress outlet. It will keep your mattress safe from dust and dirt increasing its life. You can wash it when dirty and it is a seamless task as compared to cleaning a dirty mattress.

Change the position: Different people sleep in different positions and on different sides building pressure points that cause the mattress sag at various points causing great discomfort. The easy solution to this problem is to keep rotating the mattress after every few months. Turn it upward down and rotate it to an angle of 180. It will distribute the pressure evenly increasing the useful life of mattress.

Vacuum the mattress: Mattresses are great absorbers and soakers. The pressure and temperature inside the mattresses makes ideal conditions for molds and dust mites to grow giving rise to many health issues. To avoid allergies and for a hygienic 'bed time' vacuum it on weekly basis. You will not only get rid of the pollutants but also bad odor.

Stain Removal Advice: No matter how much you try to clean your mattress it may get satins especially if you drink and eat on it and if you have kids and pets. The important thing in this regard is to clean it as soon as possible. A stitch in time saves nine! Try to use a dry sponge instead of using more liquid that it will soak dampening the mattress causing bad odor. Baking soda and lemon juice are the solutions that can be your best companions in getting rid of stains like urine and bad smell caused by it. You can use a mattress cleaner formula or solution to get rid of stubborn stains.

Keep it dry: Last but not the least, keep your mattress dry. Moisture, pressure and temperature are the favorite living places for molds and mildews. Every time you clean the mattress with some liquid make sure to dry it well before covering it with mattress cover and using it to sleep.
